Dental Implants

If you have a declining tooth and need to find a way to replace it, dental implants are an important decision that will lead you to restore the bright smile you always wanted.
Albania offers countless opportunities and professional dental treatments that may be of interest to you. One of the many reasons for tourism in Albania from Italy and Europe is the special price that our clinics usually offer, reaching 70% less expensive than in other countries or continents. Each country has its own way of applying for medicine, but the most popular techniques and latest tendencies correspond to Albania.
Of course, dental implants in Albania are the best choice thanks to the excellent care of our specialists in the area who can ensure well done, sustainable and long-term work.

Dental implants

The mouth can be a fragile area. Not only does it have a major aesthetic impact when we interact with others, but health problems in this area also affect our overall health. For example, if left untreated, wounds to the gums can cause infections in other parts of the body and dental problems can then react and affect other teeth.
Therefore, when the damage to the teeth is severe, other alternatives such as dental implants can be considered.
Dental implant surgery is the process of replacing tooth roots with metal posts that look like screws and replacing lost or damaged teeth with artificial teeth that look like real teeth and have the same functions.
Dental implant surgery can provide a great alternative to poorly placed dentures or bridges, and can provide an alternative when natural teeth lack roots and cannot form dentures or bridges.

How does this dental mechanism work?

The implant fuses to the jawbone to provide stable support for the artificial tooth. The prosthesis and the bridge placed on the implant will not slip or slide in the mouth, which is particularly important for chewing and speaking. This adaptation makes the dentures and bridges (and the individual crowns placed on the implants) feel more natural than traditional ones.
For some patients, these bridges or prostheses may be somewhat uncomfortable, as they may cause irritation, nausea, or vomiting or have very narrow corners. It should be noted that bridges should have an adjustment to the tooth from both sides. Although we can see as a possible advantage that the implants do not necessarily wear out the adjacent teeth to be able to hold the false or replacement teeth.
In order to receive this type of treatment, it is necessary to have healthy gums or strong bones that can support the tooth that will count as an implant. In addition, the person who will be exposed to this treatment must take the responsibility and commitment to maintain the structures that conform to the gums, like the dental piece, healthy. It is important and essential to maintaining delicate dental hygiene and constant appointments with the dentist to ensure that dental implants are sustainable over a long period of time.

Types of Dental Implants

Knowing the various types of dental implants in-depth turns out to be positive for anyone thinking about getting one. It can help you understand both the benefits and the drawbacks and the different options provided by the specialists. Therefore, going through the process will not be so difficult and you will be able to achieve it with greater peace of mind.
It is important to emphasize that the main and greatest source of constant information will always be attributed to your specialist. Who will evaluate your case in the best way and has the tools to advise the process with the greatest confidence and precision possible.
Depending on the person, the types of dental implants can be conical or cylindrical in shape.

– Subperiosteal implants

These particular dental implants that we can find them to the name of “Juxta-osseous” since they can be confused with a chair to ride by its unusual form and mechanical structure, it is installed exactly by the low part of the gums and its soft weave. That can leave some small reliefs in the structure that will be the vital support of false teeth or new teeth.

– Osteointegrated implants

This particular type of dental implant is placed directly in the maxillary area of the gum, making a pilot hole in the alveolar bone. In this place, the piece will be located, which can be either cylindrical or screw-shaped, and will have the function of anchoring the false or replacement tooth. Furthermore, as indicated in its name “Osteointegrated”, this new dental piece will be incorporated into the interior of the jawbone in the oral cavity.
It should be noted that this type of oral implant is not recommended for minors or children still growing up. This is divided into different groups, as they are: Of screw, cylindrical and laminated. In each one of them, components from titanium, porcelain, or zirconium will always be used; of course, depending on the shape and area in which the tooth is affected in order to provide perfect osseointegration.

Dental implant placement process

The main information about dental implants can be distributed by the specialist you choose and will always be based on the main study. Usually, the participation of other specialists and professionals with specific specializations in periodontics, prosthesis among many other areas of dentistry, or general medicine may be needed.

All these actions will be performed by professionals, who will intervene and ensure that your dental health is at the right level based on different dental treatments based on dental implants, are called “Implantology Group” and it is normal that a group of doctors will take care of this type of inconvenience.
For the whole process to be successful, these are the right steps followed by professionals:

  • The initial phase of study and planning:

In this stage of study and planning, the process is concentrated on taking panoramic radiography or orthopantomography, or at least, in most cases it is. It serves to evaluate the patient’s bone situation at three different angles and, depending on the dimensions, to assess which of them is the best option.

  • One or several performances during the surgical phase.

Depending on the case, it may be necessary between one or two interventions or surgical stages.

If this is carried out in two stages, the first will always involve the placement of the implant, covering the gum completely for a period of time that may vary, but which is close to 2-3 months. And in the second stage, a small incision is made on the outside of the gum to corroborate the perfect function and state of the dental implant in the period of time that it was covered. After this, the conjunction of the pillar that joins by contact with the buccal will be made and that will be the next point of union in the next prosthesis.

If this is carried out in a single stage or surgical session, which recently is a trend that is being used more and more frequently, the base or implant will be installed to a connection compound that is responsible for carrying the information to the oral environment, which is called transepithelial or healing abutment, preventing the second stage which is mentioned, and the obligation of another surgery after the installation of the oral implants.

It should be considered that not in all cases will be necessary to place dental implants to replace a tooth that was already absent. In some cases, the extraction of the tooth goes hand in hand with the treatment, prior to the installation of the implant. So, there is always space to consider other options. Since the cause of tooth loss may vary. And this option is effective if the decay of a tooth is caused by a lack of infection and with a healthy bone area or one that is not about to be altered.

If there is any latent infection or an alteration in the quality or weight of the dental bone, it is advisable to wait for an estimated time for the bone bed to return to its normal standard, which will be the area that will receive the dental implant, as this may be an exposure to the reliability of the posthumous treatment. In case some situation requires it for aesthetics or dental functionality, an alternative prosthesis can be made or made to measure, which is fixed or changeable and which is functional for the user when it comes to bear the temporary waiting cycle in a comfortable way. It should be noted that this waiting time will vary for each patient depending on their condition.

  • Restorative or prosthetic phase.

Once the intervention has been carried out, the patient should strive to lead a full life while the integration of the dental implant is fully seated in the bone area. Of course, regular checkups with their dentists are a must. After the necessary trial period in each intervention by individual case, which usually as mentioned above, lasts between 2-3 months, we will begin the stage or restorative phase. Where multiple tests are made totally prudent in order to measure the prosthesis in the laboratory.

This is carried out using a series of measures made of silicone and different compounds to choose from, which usually are a copy or benedict replica of the dental implant position in the oral cavity, among all other dental pieces. We send them to the prosthetist and we can achieve a correct leveling with respect to the dental prosthesis in its final accommodation.

  • Maintenance phase.

These treatments with implants have shown us in different occasions and investigative studies that they are totally true and with a high degree of success and security. Their success is based on certain quite strict and exhaustive control steps. From this point on, it does not matter who the patient is, if he or she has implants he or she must carry out the same stages of checking and constant maintenance of the implants, equally with the rest of his or her oral entity. This protocol of adequate vigilance and care is requested to periodically protect both bacterial contamination and the risk of prosthetic maladjustments due to erosion that prolonged use and function may cause.

The periodic maintenance checks dictate to take a control of the advance of the treatment, this way to be able to find in a precocious way irregularities or unfavorable movements that possibly take place in an aversive way and this way to be able to act in time before entering in gravity.

Since there is a great probability that there are no apparent problems, preventive and diagnostic routines can be carried out to provide health without a determined treatment time, which can be individualized by the aforementioned team of specialists.

What care should be taken after a dental implant?

Once a dental implant procedure has been performed, it is important to follow the recommendations of dentists to avoid pain in your dental implants or any other complication after dental surgery.

  • Keep the gauze that has been placed on you tight for 30-60 minutes.

  • Apply something frozen or cold to the external area of the cheek constantly for half an hour.

  • Do not ingest solids or hot drinks for a long time, until the sensitivity of the area decreases and the anesthetized area regains mobility.

  • Do not chew with the area where the dental implants are placed and avoid solitary and spicy foods.

  • Avoid at all costs any physical effort for a prolonged time, from 1 to 2 weeks. As much corporal exercise, as work of weights or any sport that is practiced.

  • Avoid rinsing the mouth strongly for the first hours of the treatment, to avoid creating blood clots and creating a hemorrhage from the treated area.

  • If for any reason it leads to bleeding, a compact first-use gauze should be taken and applied to the area by making constant pressure with the mouth cavity closed for about 15 min to half an hour.

  • Post-operative pain may occur, but can be treated with the medications prescribed by your family doctor.

  • You should try to maintain good oral hygiene, as you have an open wound in your mouth.

  • Brush the treated area very carefully, especially the constant suture and the surrounding mouth pieces. Then rinse carefully after a day of treatment and there is the possibility of being able to use some gel containing chlorhexidine in the affected area through dental surgery.

  • After a day of rest, mouthwashes made of salt water can be used to encourage constant cleaning of the area where the surgery took place.

  • Depending on the intensity of the surgery applied, it is quite normal for post-operative swelling or bruising to develop in the cheek area from dental implants. They usually appear from 1 to 2 days after the operation and are totally spontaneous. They do not have a fixed place of appearance.

  • It is advisable to maintain a semi-seated position and sleep with two pillows in the neck area.

  • It is necessary to take into account the immediate taking of the prescribed medication as soon as the surgical procedure of dental implants is finished.

What happens if dental implants do not care as they should be?

Dental implants are the best way to recover lost teeth. But you need to follow all the steps of recovery to avoid treatment failure. When people suffer the loss of a tooth, much more than just their appearance is at stake. Over time, tooth loss can lead to bone resorption, changes in facial structure, bite modifications, and deterioration of diet and speech.
Without proper care, these implants can develop bacterial infections of the gums. Which leads to potential diseases. It can also lead to the constant loss of the bone where the implant is placed, especially in its surroundings.
In short, if you want dental implants to be fully functional in long term and in good oral health, you must and must have the basic care. It is essential to maintain good oral hygiene. Likewise, it is quite easy to maintain good hygiene. Because the cleaning techniques do not vary, they are not special. You must brush them as if they were your teeth and use both rinse and floss.

It is also worth noting that annual visits to the dentist or specialist are essential, to help lower the prostheses and implants and to be able to apply a deep cleaning plus its basic maintenance that can be done in any dental clinic.

We can assure you that our experts in implantology located in any of our clinics in Albania will inform you about the whole process before you decide on the treatment. Knowing how to diagnose is the fundamental key and ensures a successful treatment.
